Happy Anniversary, What Goes Around Comes Around!

Today (January 31, 2009) marks the 2 year anniversary for my music video for Justin Timberlake's "What Goes Around Comes Around."

History was made that boring Wednesday night when my friends Maegan and Chris and I recorded the video at our apartment in Orlando, Florida (Chatham Square, whatup!) while we were there for the Disney College Program.

And to answer the question that for two years I'm sure you've all been asking: believe it or not, we did make up our own choreography. We are just that crunk. (Home furnishings provided by the Disney College Program.)

Happy Anniversary, WGACA!

Shrek spins off into "Puss in Boots," the movie:

The popular character, Puss in Boots (voiced by Antonio Banderas), from the 2nd and 3rd "Shrek" films is getting his very own movie. I don't really have much to say about this other than passing along the information. But in short, I think it sounds like one of those cheap, straight-to-DVD sequels.

In any case, I'm sure this thrills Banderas's wife Melanie Griffith, who hasn't done much of any work since her awesome show, "Viva Laughlin" was canceled in 2007.

I think I need a neti pot...

If you don't know what I'm talking about, a "neti pot" is a pot with a tiny spout that you pour water through in one nostril that comes out the other, as featured on The Ellen Degeneres Show and Oprah. My friend Logan has a neti pot and says that it does indeed work, and since I've been rocking this cold for several days now, I'll pretty much try anything.

Here's a little demo video (Warning, this would be considered by many people as "gross." I mean it's water coming out of someone's nose):To neti pot or not to neti pot?

That IS the question.

My Happiest Purchase This Winter (HDTVs not included)

I'm here to say that this green Old Navy puffy vest is the best purchasing decision I've made in a long time. The naysayers said I wouldn't need something of the sort in Austin, Texas, but to them I say: "It's 46 degrees right now! BAM!"

Say what you will about its "fashion value," I don't really care about that. I wear pretty much the same thing every other day, anyway. This vest is the perfect thing for when you want "a little, but not too much," in the jacket arena.

Also it's really comfortable.

Another All Star in the Adam Rucker collection is this gray hoodie, which if you've ever seen me anywhere, ever, I was probably wearing. It's also featured in the "10 Minute Arm Holding Up Challenge!"Another Old Navy clearance item.

Seriously yall, Old Navy. They aren't playing around.

Don't Let the Pigeon Write a Blog!

This past Saturday night I had the opportunity to go to a meet-and-greet with bestselling children's book author, Mo Willems. It was held at Austin's "Book People," where many famous authors stop by on their book tours.

I didn't know much about Willems prior to going to the event, other than that I have a great liking toward his incredibly simple, yet hilarious "Pigeon" children's books.Willems read his newest book, Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed, to all the little children, and me.We then lined up to get him to autograph our copies of Naked Mole Rat. He sped through the line, which I can't really blame him for-- there were a TON of people there. Mostly children under the age of 5 and their parents, and me (and my friend Whitney-- thanks for coming with!)
He didn't say much, but he did say that I rock, and that's AOK with me.I've always been intrigued by the world of children's books. They seem so easy and simple when you read them, but it must take a ton of creativity to be able to entertain someone with only a few basic words and in a small amount of pages.

If you're a small child, or an adult who likes the occasional good children's book, I highly recommend checking out Willems's work. (The Pidgeon books and Leonardo the Terrible Monster are especially good.)

Erin McCarley - do-doo-do DO, do-do-do DO

This past Friday night I finally got to see Erin sing live (again) with Brett Dennen at La Zona Rosa in Austin. She was, of course, awesome. Above is a rockin' cover of Suzanne Vega's "Tom's Diner." You know, the song that goes "do-do-do DO, do-do-do DO, do DO do-do, DO-do DO-do." Definitely check that out if you haven't already.

My favorite part of the show was when she gave me a shout out during the set. Well, she actually gave the shout out to my brother Justin at first and then corrected herself (she went to school with him and confused our names).

I had written on her wall requesting that she sing "Sleepwalking," one of my favorite songs from her CD. So she did and it was awesome. Made my life. Thanks Erin!Erin's tour across America continues so check out her MySpace for dates and locations to go see her.

Gilly........

Kristen Wiig is easily my favorite SNL actress since Cheri Oteri. Nearly every week there's a new jewel of amazingness from Ms. Wiig, and last week was no exception. And now I present to you her newest character, "Gilly" and the latest Judy Grimes "Just Kidding" appearance on Weekend Update. Just kidding. Just kidding. Just kidding.

Oscar Nominations 2009: Sad day for Miley

Well the 2009 Academy Award nominations were announced today, and yet again Oscar voters proved that they couldn't care less about movies that normal people actually see. Instead there was a spattering of predictable and boring nominations of films we've never heard of, with the occasional exciting nomination. Exciting, if only for the fact that I recognized the film's title.

I've seen two of the 5 movies nominated for Best Picture (Benjamin Button and Slumdog Millionaire) and out of all of them I'm pulling for Slumdog because I think it would really tick off the people that made The Reader and Benjamin Button. And especially since I've recently learned that BB was nearly the exact same movie as Forrest Gump, I lost some respect for it. Though I am pulling for "Queenie" from BB, Taraji P. Henson, for best supporting actress since she totally rocked my world in that movie.

I've determined that if Meryl Streep stars in any movie, she WILL get a nomination, no matter what. They're probably afraid that she will kill them. Because seriously, if any actress in Hollywood could make that happen, it would be Streep.I'm sure Oscar voters were thrilled that Doubt came out in time for Oscar consideration so they didn't have to suffer the embarrassment of nominating her for her role in Mamma Mia!

Disney has much cause to celebrate today as two of their CGI films this year were nominated for best animated feature: BOLT and Pixar's Wall-E, which will surely take the win. Kung Fu Panda was also nominated. I admit that Panda was a great film, but it's no where near being in the league of Wall-E.As I mentioned earlier, this must be a sad day for Miley Cyrus, as the song she co-wrote for Bolt, "I Thought I Lost You," was not nominated in the best original song category as it was for the Golden Globes. Therefore, my support goes to Peter Gabriel and "Down to Earth" from Wall-E.

Lastly, I'm really excited, though not surprised at all that Presto, the short animated film played before Wall-E, was nominated. It was definitely one of my favorite Pixar shorts yet, right up there with For the Birds.

And that's pretty much all I care about!

What are your thoughts on the Oscars? Do you even care about them anymore? Pixar is basically all that's keeping me...

OK NOW

New music recommendation time!

I just picked up Jon McLaughlin's new album, OK NOW and it's really good! If you don't know who JMcL is, he sang "So Close" in Disney's Enchanted, and he probably friended you on MySpace, as he did me and 60,000 other people, several years ago.

I bought the CD at Target for $9.99 (plus I had a $5 gift card- SCORE!) And it was completely worth it. JMcL has a sort of John Mayer-ish feel, but more piano-y and also kinda 80's pop-y with the keyboard settings and backup vocals he uses.

My favorite tracks are: the first single, "Beating My Heart," "Things That You Say," and the Imogen Heap "Hide and Seek"-ish "We All Need Saving." Seriously, WANS is one of the best songs I've heard in a while.

Interestingly enough, another one of my favorite tracks is one that didn't make it to JMcL's album, but DID make it to Beyonce's I am... Sasha Fierce. The song "Smack Into You" was first recorded by JMcL, but passed on to B and renamed "Smash Into You" when JMcL decided it didn't fit with the rest of his album.

But thanks to YouTube, we can still enjoy JMcL's version.Enjoy!

This guy's life would suck without you too..

My friend Whitney passed along this video of a guy (David Choi) singing Kelly Clarkson's new song "My Life Would Suck Without You" acoustically, while backing himself up, that he somehow managed to post the same day the single was released. And it's REALLY good! Check it out!
PS: he has 83,000 subscribers so I'm not claiming this as a new discovery or anything..

Death on a Bun

The other day while I was in the drive-thru at Dairy Queen, I saw this plastered to the window. The "Fritos Chili Cheese Crunch Hungr-Buster" appears to not be any regular burger, but rather a burger that will almost certainly send you to the hospital moments after you eat it.

A general rule for me is: "Don't eat items with more than 5 words in the title." That's usually a dead give away that it's prrrobably not going to be very healthy for you.

This sandwich appears to have a layer of mustard, meat, Fritos, chili, cheese, and tomatoes. I guess the tomatoes have a small redeeming value, but I'm pretty sure they're canceled out by just one of the Fritos.

The sight of this burger in picture form alone scares me more than any bullies in middle school did.

In any case, you are more than welcome to try one and get back to me on what you thought*. That is, of course, if you aren't dead already.

*Adam Rucker accepts no responsibility for the injury and/or death of those who attempt to eat the "Fritos Chili Cheese Crunch Hungr-Buster." Eat at your own risk.

Kelly Clarkson's Life Would Suck Without Me! (Or so she says.)

So Kelly Clarkson's new single, after what seems like 40 years of being out of the "scene," has finally been released, or leaked, or dropped, or whatever they're calling it now. "My Life Would Suck Without You" is back to Kelly's old poppy roots and is really good! She's keeps the song pretty much on point by saying "my life would suck without you" several times throughout the chorus. And though it's not very "groundbreaking," I can definitely picture myself embarrassingly driving down the highway belting it out.

CLICK HERE to hear the song!

It's very comforting to see Kelly transition back to the sound that made her album Breakaway so freaking awesome.
According to Amazon.com, her new album, All I Ever Wanted, drops March 17 and I for one cannot wait! It's good to have you back Kelly, now just don't go all My December on us again..

Hilary Duff Gets Legal- What, like it's hard?

TV's Lizzie McGuire, Hilary Duff, will be starring in a new NBC comedy called "Barely Legal," where she plays Kathleen Holtz, the real-life girl who passed California's bar exam at the age of 18. The show is produced by "Numbers"'s Rob Morrow.

Playing a lawyer will be quite a departure for Duff, who hasn't really even been on TV much in the last few years, save the commercial for her fragrance, "With Love," which played every 2 minutes on MTV this holiday season.

It'll be interesting to see if the show is any good or just another version of "Legally Blonde" that fails to live up to the original.

Space Mountain's Getting a Makeover

Walt Disney World's Space Mountain will close starting April 19 in order to do some much-needed "refreshment" on the ride, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Disney's being unclear as to when it will open back up, but my guess is that it won't be until around the beginning of the fall holidays. Apparently they're updating both the queuing area as well as the ride's ceiling. Though those things may not sound important, it is MUCH needed. It's like time traveling back to the 80's in there.

I am a little disappointed that it doesn't sound like an EXTREME makeover, though. I'd love for them to add a high speed launch sequence (ala Rockin' Rollercoaster), which I've heard they have on Disneyland Paris's version of Space Mountain. So, if you're going to WDW any time soon, make sure to take an extra Space Mountain ride to hold you over!

Don't forget to watch/TiVo Erin McCarley tonight on The Late Show with David Letterman!

Erin McCarley will be performing the title track from her album, "Love, Save the Empty," tonight (Tuesday, January 6) on The Late Show with David Letterman. The CD is in stores today and available for download on iTunes. So check it out!

Here's a short video with clips of songs from her show at The Parish in Austin, Texas this October.

Lyrics:
Little girls don't know how to be sweet girls.
Mama didn't teach me.
Little boys don't know how to treat little girls.
Daddy didn't show me.

Face down, on top of your bed.
Oh why did I give it up to you?
Is this how I shoot myself up high,
Just high enough to get through?

Again, the false affection.
Again, we break down inside.
Love save the empty.
Love save the empty, and save me.

Sad boy, you stare up at the sky
When no one's looking back at you.
You wear your every last disguise;
You're flying, then you fall through.

Again, the false attention.
Again, you're breaking inside.
Love save the empty.
Love save the empty, save me.
Love save the empty.
Love save the empty.

Stars feel like knives,
They tell us why we're fighting.
Storm, wait outside.
Oh, love, hold us together.

Love, save the empty.
Love, save the empty.
Love, save the empty.
Love, save the empty, and save me.
And save me.

Have you been to Medicine Hat lately?

I was looking over my Google Analytics and the cities in which visitors to my blog live and noticed two hits from "Medicine Hat." I was unaware there was such a place, so I Googled it and found that Medicine Hat is a city in Alberta, Canada.

Medicine Hat has 60,000 people and is known to locals as "The Hat" and "The Gas City" (because it has lots of natural gas reserves beneath it). Wow- Medicine Hat sounds pretty awesome!

After a trip to weather.com, I found that it is sunny and 10 degrees in Medicine Hat right now! Break out the North Face!

Anyway, just wanted to say hi to my Medicine Hatian readers!

Hope all is well in the Gas City, eh!
