Is Flash Forward the new LOST?

Probably.
The new ABC sci-fi drama opened with a close up of our main character Mark Benford (played by Joseph Fiennes) waking up amongst a ginormous disaster scene reminiscent of the opening on LOST featuring Matthew Fox waking to find the disaster following the crash of Oceanic flight 815.Mark finds a chaotic scene in downtown Los Angeles following a crazy event that caused everyone in the entire world to black out and "flash forward," seeing their lives 6 months into the future.

In this first episode we see glimpses of Mark's flash forward, and we will, presumably see glimpses of the other characters' flashes on future episodes, stretching the mystery throughout the season.

So let's go over just a few of the obvious similarities between Flash Forward and LOST:

Mysterious wide scale disaster? Check.
Outlaws on the run? Check.
Beautiful cast? Check.
References to Oceanic Airlines? Check.
Random animals where they don't belong? Check.
Flashes (forward or backward)? Check. Check.
Plot full of literally THOUSANDS of mysteries? Check. Check. Check.

The similarities between the two shows were almost so obvious that it was ridiculous. I mean, a kangaroo hopping through the streets of LA? Can anybody say POLAR BEAR?!

Almost as random as the kangaroo were guest appearances by Family Guy creator and star, Seth MacFarlane and the Famous Jett Jackson, but you know, whatever works.

Flash Forward has the perfect opportunity to establish itself as the new mystery drama once LOST disappears after its final season next spring. Not that anything can ever fully replace what I believe to be the best drama TV show ever, but there's nothing wrong with having a 2nd best.
I have high hopes for Flash Forward, especially considering it will soon feature LOST (and Lord of the Rings) veteran Dominic Monaghan and already includes Desmond's girlfriend Penny (Sonya Walger).

I'm excited for the amazingness that is yet to come!

PS it looks AMAZING in HD, but what doesn't?

Gluten Free is the Way to Be! (But only if you have to)

So it's been a little more than a week now since I found out that I'm allergic to basically the entire world of food (wheat, gluten, cheese, milk...), and so far it isn't so bad. (Check out my allergy announcement below.)I already feel better after cutting out most of those foods that I was found allergic to. There is, of course, the negative result of me finding out how much I truly love all those wheat-containing products like bread, tortillas, anything that's breaded and fried, etc. It's that whole "don't know what you've got till it's gone" thing.
A conversation about frosted animal crackers that two girls were having next to me in the library just about sent me over the edge, and visions of a hot-off-the-stove grilled cheese sandwich frequently dance through my dreams, causing a wave of disappointment when I awake.
I'm finding refuge in many potato products like chips and french fries (unfortunately I'm also allergic to corn, which knocks out all of my favorite tortilla chips), but one can only eat french fries for so long before they *gasp* get sick of them.

So I turn to you, blog-reading, gluten-free public. Got any ideas for me? What do you eat? Where do you eat?

I found that Pei Wei has a gluten-free spicy chicken meal option, which just about makes my life (I've had it twice already in the past week).

I'd love your ideas and suggestions!

Bing Visual Search is Pretty Freaking Cool!

Finally something cool about Bing.com that Google doesn't have!

I just discovered Bing's new visual search feature via this post on Mashable.Basically it's a way to find things that you know what they LOOK like but can't remember the name... Great examples are searches for "Dog breeds" or "popular celebrities." It's like a police lineup search engine!

Once you find what you're looking for, you simply click the picture, and it will run the search and provide you with more information.

Check it out! It's pretty fun.

(You may need to download a plugin called "Silverlight," but it's fast and worth it!

Kanye West's VMA Taylor Swift Outburst and Beyonce Keeping it Classy VIDEO

Well, Kanye West has, yet again, shown us just how un-classy he can be during tonight's VMA Awards on MTV when he interrupted Taylor Swift's Female Video of the Year acceptance speech to say how much better Beyonce's video was...

Thank goodness Beyonce was able to class it up at the end when she won her award for Video of the Year (Single Ladies) and invited Taylor back up to the stage saying, "I remember being 17-years-old, up for my first MTV award with Destiny's Child, and it was one of the most exciting moments in my life. So I'd like for Taylor to come out and have her moment."Thank you Beyonce for making up for what was probably one of the most terrible moments in Taylor Swift's life.

Seriously, though, how many chances are people gonna give Kanye West before they finally say it's enough?

Personally, I've never bought his music or supported him, and I hope the rest of the world finally realizes that no amount of talent can make up for being a complete [fill in the blank].

Mandy Moore to voice Disney's Rapunzel

Former teen pop star-turned movie actress, Mandy Moore will be lending her voice to Disney's upcoming "Rapunzel" CGI animated feature (out Christmas 2010). Since Mandy can both sing and act, she'll be used for all of Rapunzel's vocals.Sounds like a good choice to me! She's got a great voice and will fit within the wholesome family image that Disney likes to portray.

It is insteresting to note, however, that more and more, Disney seems to be employing a tactic of other animation studios of using big named voices in the title roles to draw attention to their movies. Obviously, Disney has always included famous voices like, Whoopi Goldberg, Ellen Degeneres and Robin Williams in their movies, but those were more supporting roles.
Unlike classics The Little Mermaid and Beauty & the Beast, Disney's new princess films The Princess and the Frog and Rapunzel employ young actresses who are already extremely successful names (Anika Noni Rose and Mandy Moore).

The studio seems to want to have a real girl young viewers can connect to, and from a company that is basically surviving off Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, and Demi Lovato, this shouldn't come as a surprise.

At all.

90210 / Melrose Place Premiere Reviews

The new season of 90210 debuted tonight on the CW, and we picked up at the end of summer school. Naomi, Silver, and Adriana spend a majority of their time relaxing at the country club, while Annie mopes around the new family house, upset that she ran over some random dude (in the season finale) and still hasn't told anybody.

Gone were the bright splashy colors of season one-- traded for darker tones, darker music, and darker storylines. Ethan's departure was acknowledged via a text message to Silver saying that he had moved away. New character Teddy established himself as the male version of Naomi, and Silver and Dixon continued their on again off again relationship, while Annie hooked up with another new character, Mark.

Overall, I really enjoyed this episode, though the new direction that the show is taking could take a while to get used to. I mean seriously, the background music was like a horror movie at times. It was weird.
Melrose Place continued 90210's dark and twisty theme with a storyline that begins with the murder of Sydney Andrews, Melrose Place's landlord, and a character from the original series played by Laura Leighton.
The episode introduces us to the dramatic characters: Ella and David, the quirky couple: Riley and Jonah, and others: Auggie, Lauren, and Violet (played by Ashlee Simpson-Wentz).

My favorite line of the episode easily went to this one:
David: Everybody's gonna think that we hooked up.
Ella: Ehh- it gives them something to tweet about.

Reference Twitter, and you're a winner in my book.

Several hints were dropped throughout the episode for as to who may have murdered Sydney, but they all point in different directions. It seems this will be a storyline that carries over several episodes and possible the entire season, ala Veronica Mars.

Melrose Place... It was good but probably a little too much drama for me to handle on a weekly basis. Also, Ashlee's acting was painful to watch, but luckily she only had about 4 lines in the entire episode.

This may be a show I either skip out on entirely or just catch up on when the DVDs come out.. We'll see. I'll give it another chance next week.

What about you?

The Drama Returns: 90210 and Melrose Place premiere tonight

Tonight's the night that teenage drama makes its way back onto your television screens. CW is premiering the second season of its Beverly Hills 90210 remake tonight along with the premiere of its other drama remake, Melrose Place.

So what's gonna go down on these entirely unnecessary, but extremely entertaining to watch shows? I don't know, but I hope there's a lot of Aunt Becky involved.90210 left off last season with a severely wasted Annie taking the wheel and [possibly] running over someone. Here's a little theory: might she have run over fellow classmate and ex-boyfriend Ethan?
I ask because those who follow the show know that Ethan, played by Dustin Milligan, has been written off the show, but we don't yet know exactly how. So I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Tonight's premiere will also introduce a new take on the traditional theme music and opening sequence, which I find to be pretty lame, and some new characters: one played by 30-year-old soap opera actor Trevor Donovan and the other by Rumer Willis.

As for Melrose Place, I don't really know what it's about, as I never watched the original. But I do know that I saw what appeared to be Ashlee Simpson, or an audio-animatronic version of Ashlee Simpson, promoting it on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon the other night, and I'll be watching just to see how that all pans out.

Adam Rucker & Maegan Wright: If I Ain't Got You

So I really enjoy singing, but I don't always get the opportunity to do so because I can't play no instruments! Luckily my friend Maegan Wright does though, and we sat down to record Alicia Keys' "If I Ain't Got You." So here it is for your enjoyment!

New Grey's Anatomy Music: Sink or Swim

Though I haven't really kept up with the happenings at Seattle Grace very much over the last couple seasons of "Grey's Anatomy," I still like to see what's going on in their music department as they always seem to feature some of the best up-and-coming artists, like my friend Erin McCarley and Mat Kearney.

This time a new song is featured during the season six promo for the series called "Sink or Swim" by Tyrone Wells.

Check out the promo video here:
And the full song here:

Lyrics:
Caught in the middle of a crossfire
Lost my balance on a high wire
Trying to figure out what to do

Pushed to the edge of my reason
Everywhere around me it's treason
I don't want to do that to you

Kamikaze airplanes in the sky
Are we going down or will we fly?
This could be a shipwreck on the shore
Or we could sail away forevermore
This time it's sink or swim, sink or swim

Hearing the song in your laughter
A melody I chase after
No one else has done this to me

Kamikaze airplanes in the sky
Are we going down or will we fly?
This could be a shipwreck on the shore
Or we could sail away forevermore
This time it's sink or swim, sink or swim

Take a deep breath
No more time left
This is what I thought I wanted
Why am I afraid?

Kamikaze airplanes in the sky
Are we going down or will we fly?
This could be a shipwreck on the shore
Or we could sail away forevermore

Kamikaze airplanes in the sky
Are we going down or will we fly?
This could be a shipwreck on the shore
Or we could sail away forevermore
This time it's sink or swim, sink or swim
